Avoid this company. I paid more than double my monthly payments to this company with all their non- sense billing. In addition their units cause battery problems, and when you try to explain you get foreigners on the phone that insist you must pay lockout fees

Original review Nov 19, 2025

This company capitalizes financially on its disadvantaged customers. Their units drain batteries to a high degree, then the company gives frivolous lockout violations when you try to get the vehicle started.

And their phone system flags your phone number so you get no help from a person. You must pay a fee or you're out of luck. And if it happens around the time you need your unit recalibrated - beware. They render your vehicle disabled and miss your recalibration if you don't pay their frivolous fees.

Voila! Then the state adds more time to your restriction period, which enables them to continue to rip you off.

Avoid this company. WARNING

I just need to talk with somebody about obtaining a DL920 form. I did speak with somebody in the past on two separate occasions to order the form and called back to get the status of it.

Save others from being taken advantage of

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

uber, bus, walk, crawl

use intoxalock and cry.

try smart start!!! less lies

i choose to lose my license rather than my money and my mind. this is a huge scam that in which I'm not sure the state DMV is aware of who they are doing business with. when people are at a low point trying to get back up, it’s not the opportunity; it’s to pad your pockets, and in such a gangster way that’s exactly what it reminded me of. as a kid, I worked in a salvage yard owned by guys who point with their pinkies.

they would charge customers, tell them to pick up the part at another location and make them pay again. that's one of the scams going on with intoxalock.

***** my victim impact statement *****

I called intoxalock for info. I spoke to a gentleman named Thomas at ext# 579.

he quoted me $84 bi-weekly. one-time fee of $29.99 on your start day. installation fee paid to installer $150.00.

when the time comes, removal fee $75.00. $15 every sixty days for a calibration also paid to the installer.

Thomas wanted to close a deal bad. suddenly, I could now pay $34.61 again bi-weekly plus a $6.00 protection plan.

that was all lies. I paid Thomas $29.99 over the phone. the installer later demanded $450.00. took my car home and have never been able to drive it since. I call every day; they put me on hold for hours. the place where you get the installation is shady itself. I would have been robbed if I didn't pay what they demanded. I’d be concerned for a woman or young person dealing with these people in this area of town.

high crime area

so now I pay $61.00 a month for a service that does not seem to be supervised past the payments needed to keep this scam going.

I'm sure intoxalock is owned by a shyster who will try to bury anyone who’s trying to do something about being taken advantage of. I so hope the DMV and the state can account for the actions of others. maybe they are aware $$$.

are the state politicians reps aware too?

so I call back, spoke with Pollyanna, Calvin, Charline Mae, and a very interesting sales rep named Craig. Craig is an officer of the law during his free time.

I asked Craig to speak to a manager.

nothing else, first and only question: just may I please speak with a supervisor or manager?

that’s not happening on Craig's watch. promote Craig; make management aware they are safe with officer Craig on the job. Craig interrogated with great sales skills. almost a deposition style, he needed to know why I wanted to speak to a manager and who I was and my personal info, and all of this was because I was a paying customer wanting some info from a reliable source like a manager. when you do dirty business, it makes you paranoid that way. Calvin yelled at me; he was angry, and he hung up the phone on me mid-sentence.

Craig gave me an email FJATIVAC@***.com. for some reason, that email did not work when I tried it. he claimed it was to a manager named Freddy. Freddy, call me please ASAP. he could not speak with me due to he took the day off. only one manager there. that was my first question, and we are twenty mins into a debate over my reasons for asking for a manager and my phone number, which I provided.

the device locks itself often and you will pay intoxalock $75, then the repair shop $50, plus a tow truck. every time!

they will not remove your device until you have paid them enough money and they had you on hold long enough to tell you to go to the court, get a document.

go to the police, get another document.

go to the DMV, do the same, all while the fees are adding up.

this will not be less than $3,000-$5,000 when you're done. if that’s the case, say it upfront; why lie? because someone who should know doesn’t know. but will now know. that’s why.

unless you live in your car, this is not a good idea. not with uber. this is a money grab in the worst way.

people are already down

and going through a tough time; to make it worse is evil.

Intoxalock - Still charging me but I’m no longer their customer!

I even mailed back their inefficient, cheaply made, dangerous, *** product. I say dangerous because many times it would lock up my engine, and it was late at night.

I was leaving work, and I was scared, and when I called them, all I got was people in India. Now, after mailing back the machine, they sent me a letter saying I owe them money and they’re going to put it on my credit report that I haven’t paid them. I don’t know what to say except run. Do not use this company.

I think we should all get together and sue them for the total inconvenience.

Scary life experience I have had because of their product. Definitely need to let the DMV know about how bad it is so they remove them from their list.

Bad devices and they are stealing people money

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

So my device says to have 2 minutes when you get out of the vehicle to crank the vehicle back up. It was 50 seconds left, and I cabled my vehicle up with no problem; had no liquid, nothing.

And it gave me a lockout the day before Christmas. I couldn't even see my vehicle because of them. I had to borrow money, and it's a faulty device, and they had the nerve to tell me I still had to pay the 25 dollars at the shop, and I'm getting charged 75 dollars for my lockout when the machine is giving wrong readings. I'm in the process of gathering all information with other people who are going through this with Intoxalock, giving people extensions because of their faulty equipment.

This has happened several times, and Intoxalock employees lie to get you off the phone.

One told me they will cover my 25 dollars; one told me they are not. Highly pissed with what they are doing, and the DMV keeps sending me letters voiding my extensions they gave me because your equipment is giving false information.

Poor installation instructions and tried to stick me with a tow and repair bill

I had Intoxalock installed in my car. The installation instructions were so poor that it caused the car to lock down.

Intoxalock informed me that I would have to pay to have my car towed from the installation center to the dealership for repairs, I pay for the repairs for the damage they created, then I would have to pay to have the car towed back to the installation center to finish installation. Btw, still had to pay for the installation. I literally payed Intoxalock to damage my vehicle. Poor customer service.

The company was suspended for operations in Missouri for a while. Not hard to believe

Corruption misleading fees every day

YOU WILL NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE

This company will be perfect for you if youre an idiot. Or you like being lied to then placed on hold for hours also have your credit card

Charged without permission fee after fee after fee.

Even the fees you agree to pay you are charged multiple times buy intoxalock.

Intoxalock customers must like to purchase automobile batteries often as well. Intoxalock willl destroy your vehicles electrical system. Im on batteries #2 and an alternator into intoxalock. Add the cabs rides to and from the unlocking the device location thats makes a tone on money off locked devices.

$125 each time you look at the device wrong. Add the tow trucks and I think it would have been cheaper to just use other mean of transportation until my suspension is over.

Its not as bad as being on hold for hours looking at your bank statement seeing charges from intoxalock and my vehicle is in the garage sitting with a dead battery and device that says locked.

SAVE YOURSELF DO NOT SIGN A AGREEMENT WITH INTOXALOCK

THE ARE SCAMMERS.

Try to find another option.

The headache that this comes with will make things worse for you I promise. This is not a option

intoxalock willl only be a pricey regret.

Updated by user Nov 04, 2025

No I wouldn't even recommend for anyone to use them either!

Original review Nov 03, 2025

I had an Intoxalock device installed in my 2013 Volvo S60 on September 2, 2025. Within two weeks, the device drained my battery and damaged my starter.

My car would randomly turn on accessories, unlock doors, activate the parking brake, and turn lights on and off by itself. Eventually, the car became completely disabled and would not start, even after replacing the battery.

I have not been able to use my vehicle since September 15, 2025.

I followed Intoxalocks instructions, purchased a new battery on October 30, 2025, and had the car towed to a recommended shop on November 1, 2025the same day as my scheduled recalibration appointment. After waiting over 90 minutes, I was told the car still would not start, and that Intoxalocks recalibration department is not open on weekends (which I was never informed of). The shop also stated they receive frequent complaints about Intoxalock.

Each time I contact Intoxalock, I receive inconsistent information, severe language barriers, and no resolution.

At one point, a representative even added my neighbors number to my account instead of returning my call. Despite replying to my online review, no one from Intoxalock has contacted me directly to resolve this issue.

Intoxalock has falsely implied I tampered with the device, which I absolutely did not do.

My vehicle had no mechanical or electrical problems prior to installation. Now it is completely non-functional, and I am being told I must pay for towing, repairs, and removal of a defective device that caused the damage to begin with.

There are numerous similar complaints nationwide, which shows this is not an isolated incident.

I am requesting removal of the device at no cost, reimbursement for damages, and restoration of my vehicle to working condition.

Definition of Intoxalock: Customer No Service

Unfortunately I have Intoxalock on speed dial. No not because of Lock outs or any technical issues I may have caused, But because their customer service, computer system, billing and shipping departments.

I will not go over all the past issues I had with the initial install of the device 13 months ago, that's already been stated here. I will only cover the most recent issue from December 13, 2016 that I am still trying to deal with. In Connecticut since around 7/1/16 we no longer need to have the calibration units shipped. The location you go to for the exchange does the recalibration on site.

This is great as you don't need to wait for the UPS driver to arrive to swap out your device. unfortunately I have been only able to take advantage of this new CT regulation 1 time as they continue to ship the devices. Once the device has been shipped you need to wait for the UPS guy/gal. Well on 12/11/16 I ordered my recalibration and when I completed the computer stated that it was going to be shipped.

I immediately called Intoxalock and was told that it always says that and that the computer system has not been updated enough for it not to state that (Nice update on your computer system Intoxalock). I said are you absolutely sure as I need to do my recalibration this month on 12/14 as I was going out of town and when they ship on Mondays it arrives on Thursday, in this case 12/15, 1 day later than I needed. The Intoxalock rep assured me it would not get shipped. Well of course on Monday after 9 PM I receive an email with a shipping tracking number.

Working 3rd shift and having Intoxalock on speed dial for many other mistakes by their various departments over the 13 months, I knew that there were no supervisors on at that time. So I called the next morning. I knew from previous horrible experiences that my situation was going to have to be solved by a supervisor. To speak to a supervisor your told that a supervisor your told that a supervisor will call you back within 24 hours.

That in itself is a joke. with all the different issues I have had not 1 time has a supervisor ever called back within 24 hours (must be because of so many complaints). For the current situation which I diverted from it will be over 48 hours by the time they read this. So back to the situation at hand.

When I explained to the customer service rep how a new unit was shipped and that we were now about 24 hours away from my desired recalibration and that they shipped a unit that should not have been shipped she spoke to a supervisor on my behave while I was on hold for about 20 minutes. But the situation was solved, or so I thought. Intoxalock was going to ship another unit FREE of CHARGE under overnight shipping so that it would arrive by 10 AM on 12/14. YEAH I can go on my trip with no issues.

Oooops spoke to soon. Guess what shows up on my invoice? An extra charge of $32 not even the previous charge of $19 that had happened a few months previous when I made a mistake and didn't order a shipment in time but $32. I'm like I guess they figured I would not notice since I have auto-bill to a credit card.

They probably would have been right except the same situation with them getting ready to ship another unit for this month happened again. Well I called and allegedly the supervisor needs to listen to the recording of my call on 12/13. Fine I said to the rep I know the Overnight shipped unit was on them. So the supervisor will contact me within 24 hrs.

Will they refund me the $32 or not? I don't know yet. I know that I did not receive the "CALL BACK" from the supervisor within 48 hrs let alone the 24 hrs they state. I also know that I have Intoxalock on speed dial for their many issues with many departments and that I did not write reviews on those many issues except for the initial install which was a complete disaster.

That was my mistake I should have reviewed each time.

The only other thing I know is that my lease on my car is up in July 2017. Which is the perfect time to remove this customer NO SERVICE company, Intoxalock, for a better IID service.

Intoxalock Reply:
Hi Stephen,

Thank you for your feedback. The situations that you highlighted in your review are not exemplary of the standard of customer service we strive for at Intoxalock. Horrific company. Fraud, deception with incompetent customer representatives.

I was approved for the indigency program in Tennessee. By court order, I was to pay $30 per month. I submitted all paperwork as requested, and Intoxalock scheduled the install. I paid my $30 monthly, but the balance due showed much more.

I called several times asking about the balance and the indigency program. I was told it was being processed. Then Intoxalock, without my permission, took $301.00 from my account. I disputed the charges.

Then I got a lockout on my device, which cannot be reset until the balance is paid. I contacted Intoxalock and kept getting the runaround. They've hijacked my vehicle.

I'm elderly, disabled, and live in a rural area without mass transportation. I need my medicine and need to see my doctor.
